What are the common mechanical seal leaks?

Common mechanical seal leaks are as follows:

1. Leakage caused by damage to the flatness of the sealing surface


Most of the damage to the sealing surface is caused by uneven slips and face cut marks. The cause may be due to the deformation or damage of the seal box of the pump and the head of the agitator, or the uneven tightening force of the bolt, which causes the sealing surface of the static ring to be deformed, and finally the leakage phenomenon occurs. It is also possible that the shape of the sealing surface changes due to a change in temperature of the sliding member during hot charging and a difference in thermal expansion. The seal will also be damaged as a result of the leak.


2. Leakage caused by the damage of the sealing surface


The lubricity of the end face seal is also very important, in addition to the sealing effect by the liquid film on the end face, and also the lubrication operation to complete the normal operation. Once the liquid film on the end face is damaged, it will cause the instantaneous wear and roughness of the thousands of friction sealing surfaces to be intensified, and even some hard materials will have serious phenomena such as cracks. When the temperature of the sliding friction surface suddenly rises, the heat accumulation cannot be removed immediately, which may cause evaporation of the sealing liquid, and the lubricating film disappears, which may cause a thousand friction phenomenon. Thousands of frictions can easily damage the sealing surface and bury a large number of leaks.


3. Leakage caused by action damage


The moving ring and the stationary ring of the mechanical seal rotate with the shaft, and they repeat the same motion frequently. This repetitive motion not only changes the sealing end face, but also increases the axial movement of the device. The amount gradually reduces the accuracy of the mechanical seal. In this way, all parts of the device will be damaged or even deformed for a long period of time, thereby losing the follow-up property and causing leakage of the seal.


4. Leakage caused by multiple factors


The occurrence of leaks is sometimes caused by a combination of various factors, such as thousands of friction, poor sliding, slip ring deformation and flatness deformation, which can easily cause leakage. Many of these causes are caused by excessive fatigue, uneven pressure, and liquid film damage. Therefore, the correct installation and maintenance of the mechanical seal cleanliness is very important, coupled with good cooling, so that it can better eliminate hidden dangers.
